What is a “Hybrid” car anyway?
A Hybrid car is a car that combines the range and power of a typical fuel powered car with the efficiency and environmental advantages of an electric motor. The benefits are which include cars that are more efficient to run, easier on the environment and don’t require specially built electric charging points.
Think of the electric motor or engine as one that takes some of the workload from the main engine. In many hybrid designs, the electric motor can power the car at lower speeds with the fuel engine taking over at mid to higher speeds. When the fuel powered engine runs, it’s simultaneously charging the battery – resulting in fewer emissions and increased efficiency. As such they can be cheaper to run, and generally will be much cheaper to tax, which explains their growing popularity.
